Job Description

Principle Responsibilities

Install and assemble water, steam, gas or other various types of pipe and pipe fittings.

Standard Duties

Assembles, installs and repairs pipes, fittings and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes. Cuts and threads pipe, using pipe cutters, cutting torch, and pipe-threading machine. Bends pipe to required angle. Assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings, and pipes composed of metals and nonmetals using hand tools and power tools. Joins pipe by use of screws, fittings, bolts, solder, plastic solvent and caulks joints. Fills pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges to determine whether system is leaking. Interprets blueprints, works from drawings and/or verbal instructions. Performs all work with adherence to safety procedures. Inspects completed work to ensure compliance with engineering specifications and local building codes.

Using arc welders, gas welders, and gas torches, welds together metal components and alloys such as pipelines, boilers for a variety of complex precision assemblies. Joins together components of fabricated sheet metal assemblies; cut, trim, or scarf metal objects to dimensions, as specified by layout, work orders, or blueprints.

Requirements

High school graduate or equivalent education/experience in trade field.

Capabilities

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, manuals, make mathematical calculations quickly and accurately. Skilled in general mechanical abilities. Must be able to read blueprints; layout to tight tolerances. Must be able to tack weld.

Physical Requirements

Lifting up to 100 lbs. Standing, bending, stooping. Working outside in various temperatures. Working at varying heights and in close quarters.
